With Maldon in Mind
With Maldon in Mind is an anthology of work by established writers, all of whom have some connection with the town of Maldon. Its title reflects its charitable purpose as all profits are donated to Mid (Essex) Mind.
A great book for 'dipping into', With Maldon in Mind covers: History, articles on aspects of the history of Maldon. A modern translation of the classic Anglo-Saxon poem The Battle of Maldon- a gripping account of the heroism of Earl Byrhtnoth and his local army, who defended the town against Viking marauders. It also contains short stories by local writers and poetry.

On Balance
Chris Danes's first novel, On Balance, has just received a glowing review in the Times Educational Supplement. Chris is a resident of Maldon. He suffers from Bi-polar disorder. He has a regular diary about this on BBC Radio 4's You and Yours, which has just been shortlisted for the Mind Mental Health Media Awards.
The Times Educational Supplement called On Balance "Chris Danes's impressive debut novel - a thoroughly good and dare I say it, enjoyable read". The review goes on to say "Chris Danes's novel draws heavily and in detail on his bi-polarity: his personal history and circumstances provide the underlying motive for writing the book - which is to raise awareness of a form of mental illness that he claims is much misunderstood."
